Punjab chief minister announces 500 MW plant

Few details are released about a project deal reportedly agreed with Canada. Chief minister Sharif is also said to have announced plans for a 1 GW electricity generation scheme.

Pakistani newspaper The Nation has carried a report that the governments of Pakistan and Canada have reached an agreement to develop a 500 MW solar project in the Cholistan region.

Few details were revealed in yesterday's online report with Punjab chief minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif reportedly announcing the deal at a press conference.

The chief minister reportedly revealed the 500 MW plant would be developed in two phases, the first a 200 MW scheme with the remaining capacity added in the second phase.

The information reportedly released by the chief minister was characteristically vague with no dates given and no details of what the Canadian government's involvement will be. An image accompanying the Nation article showed only a Canadian flag on the desk in front of assembled Punjabi government officials.

The Canadian embassy in Islamabad was closed at the time of pv magazine going to press.

The Nation report added chief minister Sharif had also announced plans for a 1 GW electricty generation project with no further details added.
